The Power of Facial Oils in Your Beauty Routine

The most persistent myth in skincare is that oil-prone skin should avoid facial oils. In reality, certain plant-derived oils — particularly those with a low comedogenic rating — can regulate sebum production, strengthen the moisture barrier, and deliver antioxidants more efficiently than any water-based formula.
Understanding oil types is essential before choosing one. Dry skin benefits most from richer oils: rosehip, argan, and marula are dense in fatty acids that replenish a compromised lipid barrier. Oily and acne-prone skin responds well to lighter, non-comedogenic choices: squalane (derived from sugarcane or olives), hemp seed, and jojoba — which structurally mirrors sebum and can help regulate it.
An oil that suits your skin does not add shine — it adds life. The difference is visible and undeniable.
The application moment matters as much as the oil itself. Facial oils are occlusives, meaning they seal what is beneath them. Apply them as the final step of your routine, over serums and moisturiser, to lock in hydration and prevent transepidermal water loss overnight. Mixing a drop into your foundation creates a luminous, skin-like finish that no primer or illuminator can fully replicate.
Patience is required. A well-chosen facial oil will not transform skin in three days; its impact on barrier integrity and texture is cumulative, visible over four to six weeks of consistent use. The shift is subtle but unmistakable — a plumpness and glow that reads as health rather than product.
